1 October – Esperance to Kalgoorlie

This is the first day we had to drive in rain since leaving Victoria back in July. Luckily for us the rain stopped by the time we arrived at Kalgoorlie which allowed us to get back into tourist mode.
We started at the Mining Hall of Fame (hey, it’s a good way to get money out of tourists) then had a geek at the superpit. When the cost of underground gold mining became too costly Alan Bond had the idea of creating a superpit by buying up the multitude of individual leases so he could create an open pit. Alan was bought out before he realised his dream.
