02 August - Kakadu

We visited several sites in Kakadu today and saw rock paintings, more birds on billabongs and more grey nomads. The boys went croc hunting along the river bank but were ordered to turn back by their keepers. That’s the keepers of the boys, not the crocs.

Our biggest decision of the day was whether to do a breakfast or sunset cruise on the wetlands. The breakfast cruise won so it’s going to be a very early start tomorrow.

We finished the day with a sunset visit to Ubirr Rock at the north end of Kakadu. We thought it seemed like a good idea to view the rock paintings then sit on a rock in the middle of nowhere watching the sun set while having a few nibbles and drinks. A couple of hundred other people had the same idea but it was a great experience so we forgot the nibbles and drinks and made our way up the rock.

We saved the drinks for the drive back to camp. Maree volunteered to drive the party bus (handy having a 7 seat car) while the rest of us enjoyed the trip in our own special way.
